Reminiscing Path

Young Architects Competition proposal
Description
Today Arte Sella is wounded and severely damaged. Now more than ever, it needs creativity and planning. This competition aims to regenerate the largest art park in the contemporary scenario. It will do so by creating a system of ateliers and architectural works in order to bring back artists and visitors to the mountains. What dwellings can be built for the greatest artists in the world? How do you encourage people to go back to places that have been severely hit by a natural disaster through architecture? Design a system of works placed on the mountains which have been damaged by the storm. Such a system will aim at taking back the fascination and beauty of one the most outstanding artistic experimentation scenarios in the world. Like modern sanctuaries, the interventions that the competition aims to generate will have to transform the place into a pilgrimage destination for visitors and artists. Season after season, they will have the chance to witness and contribute to the rebirth of the park. Everything will occur in the endless cycle of nature. Here, nature is represented by one of its most unpredictable and magniloquent expressions: mountains.

Calamity Atelier

Through what architectural gesture, can damaged Arte Sella be healed? We thought that the key was our attitude towards the aftermath of the storm. Though the storm brought severe damage, we tried not to avoid the actualities, regarding as a part of natural phenomenon and aimed to look after the forest instead. Places where visitors can feel the warmth of our thoughts will be laid on the roads of the Arte Sella and some places might even make new roads that connect the past and the future of Arte Sella.
After The Calamity
Through what architectural gesture, can damaged Arte Sella be healed? We thought that the key was our attitude towards the aftermath of the storm. Though the storm brought severe damage, we tried not to avoid the actualities, regarding as a part of natural phenomenon and aimed to look after the forest instead. Places where visitors can feel the warmth of our thoughts will be laid on the roads of the Arte Sella and some places might even make new roads that connect the past and the future of Arte Sella.  Noticing distinctive path image of the Arte Sella we wanted the newly built facilities could be read as another stream of the path, building as a path. And those pathlike buildings are laid, surrounding the things we would like to remember. Things such as damaged art structures, places where originally welcomed the visitors, and the art works that will be built laterwards. Celebrating the naturally given scenery of the huge mountain range and forest, thin, wide, and long masses were used. Affording a panoramic view from every spot, we wished every visitor could be fully immersed in the grace of Arte Sella and be a part of nature.
Museum
At the entrance of Arte Sella, Villa Strobele, there will be a museum welcoming the visitors. The museum displays both past and the future of Arte Sella. The most significant exhibits of this museum is the devastated remnants of the old Arte Sella. Visitors will be able to witness the destructive power of nature. They will also see the changes time brings to the fallen artworks.
Atelier
Among the required buildings to build, ateliers have the heaviest role to take in the scene. So regarding the changed paths of Arte Sella and the possibilities of further land that the storm gave to us, we suggest the ateliers should work as a pioneer, developing a new route of Arte Sella. The ateliers will be placed where artists want to build their art works. Artists can make a colony and communicate with each other if they want. When the works are done the place where the ateliers were will be a new route of Arte Sella and ateliers will be transplanted to new places and make more and more artistic routes. Considering the mobility of the atelier, it is armed with structure that could be built everywhere, even at the storm damaged area where trees are fallen down on. Atelier consist of two parts, glass covered shelter at upper side and workspace at down side. Putting shelter and workspace together, while staying at shelter, artists can come straight down to the workspace, at the point when they caught an inspiration. And the shelter also divides into two parts, all glass sided space where artists can fully immerse themselves in nature and watch their ongoing works, and shaded space for privacy problems. We wish artists can have a differentiated experience, while staying at the glass house, where they can face the nature at any view in any time.
Auditorium
The auditorium and the restaurant spaces were designed to be a flexible and diverse community space where various cultural events are frequently held. They serve as the last destination of the long journey. First, a circular path, surrounding the existing buildings is drawn. Then they are tilted so that one side is raised and the other is berried. The raised side acts as a flexible dining hall where visitors can dine in a immersive atmosphere enjoying the uninterrupted panoramic view. Similar to the museum complex, the restaurant faces both outward; vast forests and artworks, and inward; the original buildings. The original buildings are given new programs that work harmoniously with the new volumes. The shape of the building complements the mountain ranges surrounding itself.
